The Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council gave an address at the interparliamentary dialogue plenary session on ‘The Women’s Mission to Shape a New Agenda for Peace and Trust’.

The Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev took part in the Third Eurasian Women’s Forum in St. Petersburg. The Federation Council’s Deputy Speaker gave an address at the interparliamentary dialogue plenary session on ‘The Women’s Mission to Shape a New Agenda for Peace and Trust’.

Konstantin Kosachev remarked on the growing role of women in the work of legislative bodies. “I am sure that this is partly to the credit of the previous two editions of the Eurasian Women’s Forum. It is rewarding to see that our shared efforts are bearing fruit.”

“In recent years, there has been a great deal of positive experience in terms of women’s participation in discussions on the global issues of our time, and joint efforts to improve women’s status and promote women,” the Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council said.

“The main objective of women parliamentarians is to coordinate joint legislative efforts to create a new agenda for peace and trust, preserve human health and the planet’s climate, develop the economy and advance the process of digitalization, and implement the most necessary social transformations,” the Russian parliamentarian said.

In his view, efforts to increase the role of women in the social, political and economic life of countries around the world must continue, though this cannot be achieved without creating favourable conditions for identifying women leaders and promoting them through their careers.

Konstantin Kosachev underlined his belief that these tasks require the close cooperation of international organizations.

The discussion was moderated by First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building Lyubov Glebova and Chair of the Women’s Union of Russia Ekaterina Lakhova.

The event participants discussed issues affecting changes to the parliamentary agenda for ensuring global sustainable development and stability in the context of the new political, economic, environmental and social trends. Questions about the role of women leaders in solving current problems and improving the position of women in government affairs were raised. An exchange of best practices in collaboration between women politicians, entrepreneurs and heads of nonprofit organizations to promote the agenda for peace and trust also took place.
