Ufa Forum Proposes Measures to Support Women Scientists


A discussion was held in Ufa on 20 May on ways to support women scientists. The moderator was Liliya Gumerova, the coordinator of the EWF Council’s project Women Scientists and the Global Challenges of Our Timeas well as chair of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education, and Culture.

The discussion was attended by Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Pyotr Kucherenko, Russian Academy of Sciences Vice President Irina Donnik, Joint Institute for Nuclear Research Director Grigory Trubnikov, Tomsk Region Deputy Governor Lyudmila Ogorodova, Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology Vice President Yulia Gorbunova, TV presenter and Member of the Presidential Council for the Implementation of State Policy in Family and Child Protection Arina Sharapova, Lomonosov Moscow State University Faculty of Psychology Dean Yury Zinchenko, and the rectors of leading universities.

Recapping the discussion, Gumerova stressed the need to support talented girls who win Olympiads, create conditions for young researchers with children, including flexible working hours and setting up children’s groups in the workplace, as well as other forms of support.

Gumerova proposed analysing the proposals made during the discussion together with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the relevant departments of the Republic of Bashkortostan to provide support to women scientists and implementing a pilot project in this area in the republic.

The discussion on women in science and innovation will continue at the third Eurasian Women’s Forum, where panel sessions, expert discussions, and presentations of innovative projects are planned with the participation of international experts.
